Exhibition Development Process

To perform our research we built a prototype exhibit using the best practices of family learning exhibit development. We adapted the PISEC characteristics of successful exhibit elements and we also used aspects of the Indianapolis Children's Museum's exhibit developmental matrix. The exhibit, "A Sailor's Life for Me?" is about the lives of the men that joined USS Constitution's crew in 1812. The exhibit used a variety of exhibit techniques and hands-on interactives as well as artifacts and text. Text was limited to 50 words on a panel. Our goal from the beginning was to make changes and observe how those changes effected family behavior in the exhibit.
