The USS Constitution Museum and the Oregon Historical Society are excited to present a FREE daylong, IMLS sponsored workshop for museum professionals that will explore how your museum can serve present and future family audiences. Engage Families: Oregon will be hosted at the Oregon Historical Society in Portland, Oregon on Monday, May 17, 2010. You are invited to this hands-on, minds-on workshop that offers case studies, innovative ideas, current research and an action plan for creating engaging and educational programming for a multi-generational audience.

The Engage Families: Oregon workshop is sponsored by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Topics include:

  • The theory of family learning and what it means for museums
  • Writing engaging exhibit labels that your visitors will use
  • Creating low cost hands-on, minds-on exhibits
  • Developing prototypes
  • Present market research about family visitors to museums
  • Examples and discussion of what makes a successful family program
  • The benefits for museums of serving a family audience

You’ll learn simple and effective techniques and come away with low-cost, replicable ideas that will help advance your institution’s interactions with families.
